Current law provides that either party in a juvenile court hearing conducted by an associate juvenile can request a rehearing within five days of the associate judge's order. HB 272 removes the option for a rehearing.  Counties will hire associate judges to relieve caseloads on juvenile court judges. This will allow for a more efficient processing of these cases and will save county resources.

This bill extends the $5,000 death benefit from clerks who die in office to retired clerks.

This bill gives the Public Service Commission (PSC) the authority to regulate companies that provide emergency warnings to the public.  The bill specifies that counties are not required to use the services of these companies.  Counties using this service would not be liable if the company fails to deliver the emergency warning.
